Seeking Wise Counsel: Biblical Financial Discipleship with an Eternal Perspective

Aaron Guyett & Aswand Cruickshank Season 4 Episode 7

Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.

0:00 | 39:16

This teaching concludes a seven-part series on biblical financial discipleship, emphasizing that while God owns everything, believers must seek wise counsel and maintain an eternal perspective in managing finances. The core message stresses that money is merely a tool to glorify God, not an object of worship. True wealth is found in the Lord Jesus Christ, and financial decisions should be made through prayer, biblical wisdom, and consultation with mature believers. The teaching emphasizes that whether believers have abundance or little, they can rejoice in Christ's sufficiency. Financial stewardship extends beyond material wealth to include leaving a legacy of faith, values, and practical skills to future generations. The session challenges the cultural narrative of individualistic "hustle" mentality, instead promoting community, accountability, and humble dependence on God's provision.

Key Points:

  • God is the ultimate owner of all resources, and believers are stewards, not owners
  • Seek wise counsel before making financial decisions, avoiding the "lone wolf" mentality
  • Money itself is not evil; the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil
  • True riches include salvation, relationships, faith, and values—not just material wealth
  • Financial decisions should align with biblical principles and be supported by scripture
  • Distinguish between needs and wants to find contentment and financial freedom
  • Leave an inheritance that includes faith, values, skills, and wisdom—not just money
  • Work should be viewed as worship, done for God's glory regardless of occupation
  • Humility and transparency are essential when seeking and giving counsel
  • Rejoice in God's provision whether in abundance or scarcity

 All right, we're back.

Aswan and I, financial discipleship from the lay person's perspective.

But this is a biblical understanding of money management.

And we're in the seventh and final lesson.

This is seek wise counsel, trust God as provider with an eternal perspective.

And this one, it's great because I get to

continually point to, hey, if you're having issues, if you're having trouble, if you're needing a little bit of assistance, that is the whole genesis of this course.

It was Aswan and I had a conversation.

And he was like, Hey, I would love to help help people out.

I'm, you know, I'm getting my, my certs and all of all of my education in this and I'm building a team.

And I'm helping people right now.

And I said, Well, shoot, let's do a

Let's do something that will fit on the app.

So as we are disciples in Christ, we look to his word to know how to do life.

And in this particular aspect of life, financial discipleship can often be the thing that leads many astray.

But it doesn't have to.

We can know that God owns it all.

Commit ourselves.

as we committed our lives to Christ, we can commit our finances as well.

He's Lord of leadership.

He's Lord of heaven and earth, which means he's also Lord of our finances.

And I know that you're getting Christian counsel as well.

When you tap Aswan, click that link and then schedule a time with him.

So yeah, we cannot serve both God and,

and money by faith in jesus christ alone we seek godly counsel reject the love of money and fix our eyes on eternal treasure god himself is our provider wealth is merely a tool to glorify him as on what do you think

So there's several places I can go with this.

And as we do every week, we take it to the practical way.

And myself, I'm so glad that you mentioned that the reason we started this was because I became a financial educator, right?

I became, I went and I took my test and I have a license and I work with

several insurance companies and I'm not here to sell one.

Now I'm here to talk to you about what's best for you, the individual.

Right.

And none of that happens if I don't do what God told me to do, which is seek wise counsel.

All right.

I want to tell you guys, I'm on record saying it.

My whole mission was not like Aaron's.

I'm in the fitness world, man.

I didn't, I don't like finance.

I don't like talking about money at all.

I don't like it at all.

But what I do enjoy is I do enjoy seeing people get a hold of it.

I do enjoy seeing people reach their goals.

And you can relate as a fitness guy.

And when I learned, hey, if you go and take this test, as much as I hate taking tests, as much as I hate multiple choice, as much as I hate all that stuff,

You're going to be able to serve your people a whole lot better by doing this.

So make the sacrifices.

Again, seek wise counsel.

Make the sacrifices to do the things that you say you want to do.

And that's where we got to go.

And you can't go to man for that, folks.

You cannot go to man.

that actually referred me and told me about the financial license and all the things I can do.

I haven't spoken to them in weeks because I was already seek the wise counsel.

I got the information.

Now I'm ready to pass it along to you.

And that's what we mean when we say do godly work.

You cannot seek man.

You cannot seek man.

You have got to start to look inside of you internally and ask yourself, is it ethical?

And I'll kind of close out with this story.

I was I think it was named Pastor Kevin Johnson.

He was on my show just like Aaron was on my show a couple of years ago now.

So I think it's been about a year now.

And he said something that really was key.

He said, you always know when the bad that you always know when to do the right thing.

You always know when you're doing something wrong and you know when you're doing something right.

You do know it.

All right.

No, there's no excuse.

I don't care where you come from, where your parents are.

You know the feeling of doing something right and doing something wrong.

And the right thing is to seek God in all of your decisions, especially when it comes to your finances.

So, I mean, that verse I can go on for a lot because had I not had just like the verse last week, had I not had that understanding of I don't have to have it all figured out.

I can go and meet other people.

then I don't know how I'm able to survive this crazy, crazy world that we live in.

Yeah, 100%.

And that is the Holy Spirit, right?

And shoot, even Romans 1, those that are abased, those that are in sin, they're still morally culpable because they know just looking out into God's creation that...

god actually exists that there is such a thing as good and evil and then they they've chosen evil they've chosen to go astray they've chosen to remove god um and idolize other things and so obviously you know we could do that with money we could do that with um anything right we do that with sex we do that with sports we could do that i mean the

The list is long because God created us humans to worship.

So we are really good at worshiping, whether that's God or insert whatever else, yourself or whatever else.

But Proverbs 15.

I do have to tell the story.

I do have to because it, so, and I'm glad you brought this up because it is so important that when you're talking about your relationship with God, we are not here to judge.

I went to two networking events Thursday night too, like back to back.

All right.

And I will not say her name.

I know if she's listening and I'll shout out to you if you're listening.

But she told me a story that I have to come.

I have to come and talk to you guys about.

She moved to the States from Canada and became a stripper, became a stripper.

She told me this is network.

It became a stripper.

And she told me, look, obviously I didn't go overboard, but I use that money to invest in my own business.

And now I'm one of the top realtors, top like, because I'm in the process of buying a home.

I want the top realtors that can help people find a home.

And now I'm doing God's work and her and her husband was there happy as can be doing a ton of great things for the, you know, for the glory of God, because, and when I spoke to her, I was like, you know, that's a person who has been in a place where she probably didn't believe she was degraded, but the mindset of,

I'm doing this because I'm going to use my resources to glorify God.

That's what I mean.

I'm not here to judge anybody for what it is you do or how you do it, what you had to do before.

But we're here to let you know God's going to be there regardless to show you a way to say this is how you reinvest.

So, I mean, when you mentioned what you use, it brought me back to her face and how, you know, just...

The you could see she had like a transformation as it pertains to when she tells that story for her to be transparent enough to tell that story.

It's important that if you work with me or if you work at Aaron or if you're just on our platform in general, we're not judging you for whatever you did in the past.

We're more so focused on moving forward.

Yeah, and prayerfully, hopefully, you know, it sounds like she hit a point where she knew what she was doing wasn't right.

Repentance.

And now she's doing things to glorify the Lord.

Yeah.

And we can be redeemed out of the worst situation.

uh situations right uh and we know we know that uh even in jesus line there are prostitutes in his in his line right in his lineage he even actually set free a prostitute right in when he walked the earth when god incarnate through jesus christ walked the earth right so yeah absolutely um and

 Proverbs 15, 22.

And who knows, maybe she could have had another opportunity, but that's not how, that's not the story God wrote for her, right?

The story God wrote for her was the story that she had.

And now it's being redeemed to his glory, which is beautiful.

Proverbs 15, 22, without counsel, plans go awry.

But in the multitude of counselors, they are established.

I've done things lone wolf style.

And I've done things with wise counsel.

And I'm not here to say that sometimes you can't

make it happen rambo style um but i am here to say that we were not created to be john rambo to be alone and unafraid and by ourselves doing our own thing um you will hit a point where it's loneliness it's the isolation um and

even if you've got everything you don't have everything in terms of material and money you don't have the things that matter you don't have relationship right uh and so and so woe to that person you know that that is in that situation where they they can't seek wise counsel because they're either too stubborn their ego too prideful whatever it might be uh

Or they think they've believed the propaganda that is, hey, you should be John Rambo.

You should be out there.

You know, you don't need friends.

You're going to make a ton of enemies or whatever.

But your hustle is going to be the thing that overcomes.

And it's like...

yeah sure until you're up there by yourself and and you don't have and you have all of the things that you desired you know back back when you were casting those visions um but you don't have you don't have the most important thing you don't have relationships in which you can share it with right or and you can't trust people um and then typically that that it means you also don't have a relationship with jesus christ

And you can't trust even God, the one that created you, the one that sustains your life and being wild.

Yeah.

Well, I mean, it's interesting.

So I'm in Boca.

We had it on the campus of FAU, Florida Atlantic University.

I was a vendor for this five, this big run 5K.

And it didn't go the way I'd envisioned it to go.

We were around the track.

It's me and about six or seven other vendors there.

And the people, because it was a free run, people didn't really talk to our tables.

I didn't really engage with the vendors like that.

Luckily, it was free.

We didn't pay anything to do it.

So it wasn't like the expectation was to get a lot of people.

But the big thing I took out of that was the connections I made with each vendor.

And then the one or two people that did stop by the table, one in particular, she she again.

I mean, they tell me these stories all the time because this is what I do.

So, yeah.

you know uh she has a wellness company and you know she was telling me how it was her and two friends that were running their own business they were running their own business one had a nutrition thing you know how it is in fitness there's always some wellness and nutrition so they had these things and they said look i kept trying on my own i did everything on my own and i could not move the needle it just wasn't working

Eventually the three of them came together.

And because people saw the ad on Instagram, they were able to generate a ton of leads and a ton of information.

A ton of people wanted to talk to them because they came together.

Now, had they tried to, and she told me this verbatim with what you just said.

She said, Hey, had we kept trying to keep push our own thing and push our own agenda and do this, we just wouldn't have gotten to where it is we are now.

And I'm telling you this because it is so important that you get out of that stubborn mindset.

Now I get out of it.

You got to get out of that mindset that you're here to just do everything on your own.

That is something that the media pushes on you.

So when you run into folks who are the quote unquote sharks only care about money or financial advisors, they want you to be highly sensitive to them.

Now,

Granted, there's a lot of ones out there that are shady, but it's they're shady not because of there's anything necessarily wrong with money.

It's all about the people's approach to money as opposed to, hey, this is something is a measurable that I want.

See, I mean, I think you're a perfect example.

You have already your measurables in place.

I want my daughter being protected.

I want my daughter having these things.

So you're going into whatever conversation that you're going to have with the financial advisor.

 With that mindset.

And if whatever they say isn't aligning with that mindset, it doesn't work.

I don't care what you've done.

I don't care what the shady things you've done.

You can't dupe me into doing something that's not going to be best for my child.

And that's a mind.

That's an in-person thing.

And that is where the relationship of God shows up.

 Yeah, that's 100% right.

I will say, obviously, the counsel of God's word is going to be primary.

But then finding good, godly, wise counsel in all areas of your life.

But specifically, you think about finances.

So I made a couple of choices where I knew I could make more money.

But then I thought about...

strategically and then the generational impact of so if i if i were to make more money in this regard i'm gonna take myself away from um my kids so i'm just not gonna be able to be a good steward of the the greatest gift that god has given me which is my children um my wife and my children

I mean, obviously salvation first, but then, but then past salvation, it's like, he's gifted me my wife, which is a huge blessing, which I am to steward appropriately, you know, to glorify him.

And then he's given them to my children.

And the, the wild part is it's, it's kind of like money in that or working out in that you, you can't go and get, you know, a wild max bench or a wild max, uh, squat, uh,

 today.

Like you can't work out and attain that today.

It takes years and years and years of reps and sets and consistency to get that or a really fast runtime or a really fast sprint or whatever it is, right?

It's going to take a lot of time.

And then on the fitness realm, obviously there's physiological limitations in that as you get older,

 recovery will be harder.

We could still gain strength when we're 80.

We could still gain endurance when we're 80.

We're just not going to gain it like we did when we were in our 20s, young 20s.

But finances, not so much.

We can have that compounding interest.

We can, again...

slowly over time right that slow and steady wins the race um it will get somewhere well it's the same thing with raising children you don't see the ramifications of the way in which you discipline them and i mean discipline yes in the corrective punitive sense but i also mean discipline in just the consistent training consistently being on the same page with your wife consistently uh

having faith in God's promises over your children, consistently doing things in accordance with God's word with your children.

But I'm here to say that yesterday,

My daughter, this is wild to me because I thought, you know, she's kind of a people pleaser.

I feel like I did the worst with her.

She was my firstborn.

And so she was, you know, she's had all the experimentation of all the different ways of parenting, many of which are unbiblical, you know, when I first started raising her.

But

my wife and i you know consistent uh this goes to show also that uh god can god can even work through a donkey right me being the donkey like like balaam uh in in the old testament but it's it's true she got the overall character award

for all of junior high um and and then she also earned and and that doesn't happen you know overnight she has to earn that every single day at school um and then and then she also earned the queen of all of logic and this is like she's competing with eighth graders ninth graders and upperclassmen so 11th graders and stuff so

any one of them could have done better.

She was just more consistent.

She just consistently stewarded her time well, her studies well, her reading well.

And man, I'll tell you what, I was blown away and totally appreciative.

But the thing is, I could not have done this if I didn't shut up and get wise counsel.

Like, hey, I...

how should I approach getting her to appreciate academics and engage in that?

How should I approach getting her to appreciate and build good habits in terms of her fitness?

And so I'm constantly looking for the wisest person in the room and then shutting my mouth, asking them the question, and then just listening and taking notes and then trying to actually apply that.

 what that wise counsel is.

And I mean, it works in finances, it works in fitness, and it also works in childhood.

And I have to make this point because I go to Life.Church, I listen to Craig Groeschel every weekend.

He just finished his series on marriage.

And

what you just said speaks to that because you stopped trying to win.

You stopped trying to be, Oh, I'm, I have to be.

And, and a lot of them, it takes a lot of men that don't understand that because whatever is going on with the mother, it may not be as, as committed of a relationship or whatever it is, maybe not as a solid of the foundation, but,

And instead you're trying to win and that trying to win, it affects the development of your children, folks.

So you got to, again, we're talking finance, talking marriage and all that, but this starts to relate to every single phase of your life where you stop trying to

win so much and humble yourself.

Even me, myself, I went even throughout these courses, I went back and hired another coach for me.

We just had a call yesterday.

I said, Hey, got a new business.

Now I'm doing some things.

I need my coach back.

Give me, give me the raw uncut.

What do I need to do better?

And he gave me great advice.

You're never going to stop needing it.

invest in it now and put it in the budget to invest in somebody that's going to take a fresh look at what it is you're doing and give you that hard, honest truth and go from there.

You can't avoid it, guys.

You can't.

You're going to keep ending up with the same results.

 That's right.

And Philippians 4.19 says, And my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

And so according to his riches, now oftentimes we can kind of twist and be like, oh, I'm going to be rich.

Yes, God is a God of superabundance.

 Yes, you can be wealthy.

Yes, you can create an inheritance for your children's children.

You can believe in those promises of God, but let's not get it twisted.

God is not a genie.

where you get to rub the lamp a certain way and then get everything that you want.

It's according to his riches.

But the thing is, he does talk about diligence and he talks about discipline, right?

And being a disciple.

And so these general rules,

 still apply, right?

And we talked about this way early on.

We talked about the common grace of God that some people in the secular realm are making tons of money because they're just applying the basic sowing and reaping principles.

He who sows much, reaps much.

That's how it works, right?

Now, am I able to share my screen?

So I just looked up the definition of rich and I just want to, it says...

It is versatile, adjective broadly meaning having abundant possessions, high value or deep fulfilling qualities.

It applies to material sensory experience and meaningful death.

Definition depends heavily on the context, which falls into a few distinct categories.

Doesn't say money, guys.

 It doesn't say money.

It doesn't.

It is all up in here and it's all mindset.

Every time somebody says that to me, I go look up the definition.

I tell you, even if you want to say, oh, I'm not, it's in the definition.

It's in the definition.

Everything goes back to God's word.

Yeah.

Yeah, and if God did indeed create you, and if he does indeed sustain you in being, the reason why you exist is because of Jesus Christ, right?

If these things are true, then as...

Typically, I think we're talking to people that are saved.

You are abundantly rich.

Whether you have a ton of money or not, you have the most valuable thing you could ever have in your entire life.

your Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, right?

And in Christ, now it's like everything else is just cherries on top, right?

It's just the icing on the cake.

Anything else that is above and beyond that, if you're clothed, if you're housed, if you, you know, and most of us, if you're watching this, you're probably watching it on a phone or whatever.

I mean, this thing is like a computer, right?

This phone is like a computer, right?

a supercomputer from yesteryear and it can fit in the palm of your hand.

You have access to all sorts of technology, all sorts of knowledge, all sorts of information.

Anyway.

So, so typically you are already abundantly rich and you're, you,

Like you said, you just don't have the mindset of that.

And first Timothy 6, 10 says, for the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil.

Go back and repeat that again.

The love of money.

If you are worshiping money, if you, cause God doesn't say, Hey, love money and love me and love your neighbor.

No, he says, love the Lord, your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength and love your neighbor as yourself.

He doesn't say, and also money and just love a little bit of money.

It's like, no, no,

but money is not the root of all kinds of evil it's the love of money for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness and pierce themselves through with many sorrows so if you worship money right whether what here's here's the kicker if you are worshiping money if you are loving money whether you have a lot or you have a little it will lead to sorrow

 Period.

You could be a trillionaire and love money and you will have sorrow.

You could be poverty stricken, but love money and you will have sorrow.

Period.

Right.

But if love the Lord, your God, love your neighbor as yourself.

And if you have money, man, that's icing on the cake.

 Yeah.

And I mean, I often say money isn't real.

And when you and I were kids, we maybe had to hold the cash in our hand.

Nowadays, you don't have to have any cash on you to be able to afford what it is you want to afford.

So is money actually real?

Yeah.

I know my philosophy major comes out when people talk like that, but is it actually a real thing?

I mean, my nephew, my niece and nephew are never going to actually have to have a physical dollar anymore.

They could not even a card and they've never even have to see they could have a million dollars in your bank account and not even have money.

the cash and be financially well off.

So again, just that paper that you're chasing, it's not a real thing.

Okay, it's not a real thing.

And it gives you access to a lot of different things, but it's not as real as you make it.

 Yeah, absolutely.

I mean, and we could go down a deep rabbit hole into fiat currency and all sorts of stuff.

But yeah, I mean, and the thing is, I was listening to...

Wealth of Nations by... Oh, shoot.

Who's the author?

Adam Smith.

And he's a Scottish dude.

And it's written in 1776.

And he's talking about... It's basically a primer on economics.

And he's talking about... It's like...

this money with whatever form it's in whether it's coins or it's um you know paper dollars or it's digital online or encrypted digital um you know bitcoin or something like that it's a representation of value

right um it's it's merely a representation um and then you know then there's inflation and all sorts of wild things um and yeah and so it's it's a stand-in for for value um but it isn't the value right it's it's just a stand-in representation um

holding value for something, whatever that is, whether it's a product, an actual good that you can hold, or some sort of service, labor, or something like that.

Yeah, and we can leave

this thing as an inherit we can leave inheritance to our children's children but we talked about last week like some of that is going to be leaving uh faith value right an understanding of who the lord is and what that means to our lives uh in an occupational or vocational value so how to do certain things like you talked about the barber uh and the barbershop

um we can we can leave land and actual possessions right actual things that will last you know generations like hey i'm going to give you i'm going to give you this um hunting rifle um it was passed down to me it still functions perfectly you'll be able to use it and you'll be able to hand it down to your kid or or i'm going to give you this skill right and you'll be able to teach your children this skill whether it's

you know, a survival skill or a mechanical skill or an electrical skill or whatever the case might be, right?

A speaking skill, a knowledge, understanding skill.

All of these things have value.

And then as we work, like we said last week, right?

We will run into the thorns and thistles that is post-fall, but the work is still good.

Work is a pre-fall good.

So, yeah.

Sorry, Hans, did you want to say something?

No, I mean, there was a lot there in that because, again, you guys are used to me now.

I'm going to take everything back to the sports world.

And you got to forgive me.

I was up late watching the Knicks game.

Then I ran 10 miles this morning.

Then I was a vendor at this event.

And as you're talking, I'm thinking about my nephew and the family I'm hoping to build and the day and how I still have so much to get through to the day.

And it's like...

man, when I'm able to leave this work for the people coming behind me and show that model, it's everything God is telling me to do.

Like I'm becoming more inspired the more I hear and talk to them more to where I'm learning.

And I'm here to tell you how much

we've removed religion from our walk with faith.

We've removed religion from our relationship with God and just say, if you're doing it from here, like we talked about in Colossians 3.23, if you're doing it for the Lord, then you're not going to stop.

You won't be able to just quit because you realize it's for the Lord and the Lord is going to provide the tools to give your young people, hey,

This is how you take the next step.

This is how you grow.

This is how you build.

I mean, the special thing about watching that game last night was, again, I'm a Miami Heat fan, so I don't have a dog in the fight, really.

But I love the fact that there were former Knicks players watching the game.

You had former Spurs players.

You had a championship organization, and it felt like a college game where guys are coming back, watching their alumni.

They're cheering them on.

Right.

Knicks are taking it late and then they got to go to the garden.

So either way, as a fan of teamwork and family in general, that was a beautiful display of, hey, this is the way events and this is the way things should be run.

This is how it should look in your business.

This is how it should look in your family.

People coming back, they're well off, they played with the same coach and

they're doing well and it's giving each other guys some fun league, you know, friendly banter, all that kind of stuff.

That's just, that's just exactly what fellowship needs and fellowship is all about.

And your walk with God is all about that.

That's really what it's about.

Yeah.

And getting, getting that group of,

you know, men around you, group of people around you that are going to, I think, first of all, they're going to call you out if you're screwing up and doing dumb stuff, right?

They're going to love you, right?

Love you truly by telling you the truth, the cold hard truth.

But they're also going to support you.

 Yeah.

And and then they're going to point you if they don't have the wise counsel, they're going to point you to the wise counsel.

Hey, go read this book.

Oh, hey, read this passage in scripture.

Hey, you know, go talk to this guy.

I don't really know fully what you're going through, but this guy, he's been there, done that, got, you know, got the T-shirt and can give you some great guidance.

Right.

 Yeah, and you can tell.

You can tell when you speak to people.

You can tell if it's a person that's humbled themselves first before they start telling you what you should do.

I mean, I remember one conversation I had.

There was a guy, he was on my show, and then after we talked just to kind of catch up, and he goes, are you open for advice?

Are you open for me to tell you an idea?

And the fact that he asked that question, guys, that is what we call respect in the business.

That's what we call respect, period, right?

Too often, you guys have gotten so comfortable with folks and you kind of coddled each other so much to the point where you don't even respect the person to say, hey, do you mind if I give you this advice?

Then you get your yes.

That's all it takes.

Opening your mouth and being respectful enough to say, hey, I have an idea.

You can take it.

You may not take it.

And that's how you move forward.

You can't just go about, oh, because you're of this race.

Oh, this last name and of this school and I have this degree.

And now all of a sudden I get to qualify myself as I'm better than somebody else.

You're not.

Nobody's better than you.

You're not better than anybody else.

We're all here walking the same path.

That's what it's all about.

 Yeah, no, that's 100% right.

And I wanted to just take a quick minute and I wanted to pull up, for whatever reason, I cannot see what I'm trying to pull up here.

What is going on?

Okay.

Yeah, I just wanted to pull up the application and I had something...

 Yeah, I had something different.

Yeah, maybe you can help me out and help me pull up.

I'm looking at Matthew.

Did we go Matthew 16?

You just want to go over the application?

Yeah, so I wanted to do the application and then jump into the closing encouragement.

And I've got – You want to send it to me?

Hold on.

 I can share my screen.

You should be able to share yours, though.

Yeah, I can share mine as well.

I'm going to pull it up right here.

Yeah, here it is.

I don't like that look.

I like this look.

yeah, usually I have this printed out, but I think I printed out.

Oh, that's why.

Yeah.

I printed out the seven, um, but I wanted to print out this one.

Yeah.

So real quick, uh,

Just the application is, number one, because I read the application where it had all seven lessons together, and it's view your job or business as worship, trusting Jesus to bless the work of your hands for his purposes.

But I added a couple more, and I wanted to denote these.

So number one,

Before even seeking wise counsel, you can seek the counsel of the Lord.

You are gifted with the Holy Spirit.

Pray over every financial decision.

Number two, establish a Bible verse for each decision.

I just recently heard this.

Oh, somebody, Gabe Wrench just shared this.

And I thought, man, that's really good.

And I typically do this just without thinking about it, but I'm like, man, I'm gonna establish that as like, hey, is there a biblical verse?

Can I say, yes, what I decided to do is biblical.

And here, let me show you the verse.

Man, if you could do that, then you know that you are not walking awry or astray of the Lord.

And then obviously consult mature believers.

We've already talked about that.

And then you can live and sing with joyful confidence that Christ is enough.

He's enough now and he's enough forever.

Whether you abound in riches or whether you...

 have want, right?

Whether you don't abound in riches, whether you have a little or much, right?

And this is what Paul says as well, whether I have a lot or a little, right?

I can rejoice because I am with Christ Jesus.

Amen.

I wasn't sure if you already tried the screen share.

I didn't end up screen sharing.

I just shared it.

I just read it.

It's from The Seven.

That is from The Closing Encouragement.

That makes a whole lot more sense.

Okay.

Yeah, so to essentially close, and I'll give you the last word because I intro'd us, but these seven insights, they're not a formula for manipulating scripture or manipulating God in order to obtain worldly riches, but it's an understanding of obedience and joy for those who trust in Jesus Christ alone.

As we glorify God with our finances, he transforms our hearts, frees us from anxiety, and uses our money and material for his eternal kingdom, including leaving an inheritance to our children's children.

So as we trust in his promises, we can rejoice that he gives as much as we need.

And we can also rejoice that

If he gives us much, we can rejoice in that.

And if he gives us little, we can rejoice in that.

So whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

That's Colossians 3.17, which is prior to your verse.

Whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

1 Corinthians 10.31.

And then my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory.

In Christ Jesus, the one that we already read, Philippians 4.19.

Yes.

And I would close with very something simple.

First of all, it's been a pleasure.

It's been a blast.

I cannot wait to maybe I got to talk to Aaron about how to rerun it back and do something again as we get into the end of the year.

Believe it or not, we're halfway through the year.

So as December comes around, I'm sure there's going to be a lot more interest, a lot of people coming in and out.

But I want to make sure I explain to you guys it's,

The rejoice piece and what you said about rejoicing is absolutely, absolutely the key part to this entire thing.

You got to start rejoicing and understanding the difference between what you need and what you want, all right?

Establishing what your needs are.

I guarantee if you really focused on what's a need, again, there are fingernails, you know, getting your fingernails done every week isn't a need, all right?

Getting your hair done every week isn't a need.

I'm talking about your needs and your wants.

And one of the biggest things that made it clear for me is when I really asked myself the question, what is it that you need as one versus the things that you want?

And when you start asking those questions, the riches will come in liquid.

We're not talking, we're not just talking crazy stuff.

We're talking, it's going to come to where you realize I have so much more for the things I need versus just the things I want.

And if I focus on my needs and

then the things that I want eventually come because I've put myself away from the equation.

I got what I need.

I mean, I could sit up here and talk to you about CEO after CEO who pays himself maybe a dollar.

There has been coaches who have donated their entire salary to particular nonprofits and particular causes that they believe in.

Understand their needs were already met.

There's tons of retired NFL players.

Their needs were met.

 Don't focus on your needs.

The ones start coming in abundance when you focus on your needs and your word, the word of God and developing that walk of faith with your relationship.

So that is what I will, if you're listening, take away from that with needs versus wants and then go from there.

That's beautiful.

Thank you so much.
